VILLAGE OF OTEGO, NEW YORK
WATER SYSTEM IMPROVEMENTS
Laberge Group was retained by the Village of Otego to address issues with the Village’s water system that were causing frequent breaks and service disruption. After analyzing the state of the watermains, service laterals, a pump house, a booster station, and a storage tank, the team developed design solutions to address significant infrastructure issues.
These improvements include:
- Replacing asbestos cement watermains with new, larger pipes.
- Replacing an exposed watermain currently located on the bed of Otsdawa Creek with a new main beneath the Creek.
- Replacing a booster station for the Village water tank in order to maintain pressure levels.
- Relocating a well house from the Susquehanna River floodway, where it has sustained flood damage, to a site with a higher elevation.
- Installing a mixing system in the Village’s water storage tank to prevent water from becoming stale and provide freeze protection.
Before selecting these system improvements, Laberge Group provided multiple alternatives and provided analysis of the pros and cons of each. This enabled the Village to select the alternatives that delivered the greatest benefits to their residents.
Laberge Group also partnered with the Village to leverage the findings of a Preliminary Engineering Report to secure $3 Million in NY Water Infrastructure Improvement Act (WIIA) funding, as well as $1.25 Million in Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funding to support the design and implementation of this vitally important community project.
