NY FORWARD ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT PLANNING
Laberge Group has been retained to provide planning consulting services to the New York State Department of State (DOS), Office of Planning, Development and Community Infrastructure (OPDCI) to support the NY Forward (NYF) program, which was established to invigorate and enliven downtowns in New York’s smaller and rural communities.
Our planning professionals have collaborated with the OPDCI team and leaders from communities in the Mohawk Valley Region including the Villages of:
- Boonville
- Cooperstown
- Dolgeville
- Richfield Springs
- Sharon Springs
The NY Forward planning process refines each community’s vision, develops strategies for downtown revitalization, and identifies a portfolio of transformative projects. Consulting services include public engagement, meeting facilitation, current conditions assessment, and vision/goals facilitation, as well as community profile and project development. These planning processes are driven by Local Planning Committees (LPC), which culminate in the development of a Strategic Investment Plan (SIP) that will present a slate of priority transformative projects for funding consideration.
Communities utilize funding and technical assistance provided by NY Forward to develop, refine, and implement a catalogue of revitalization projects designed to leverage State funding. These projects may include:
- New development
- Rehabilitation of existing downtown buildings
- Streetscaping
- Wayfinding signage
- Façade improvements
- Business assistance
- Leveraging prior planning initiatives
- Capitalizing on unique downtown features
- Public space upgrades
