VILLAGE OF NEW SQUARE, NEW YORK
SIDEWALK PLANNING & CONSTRUCTION

Laberge Group was retained by the Village of New Square to plan and construct 3,100 linear feet of sidewalk throughout various areas. The Village is highly pedestrian, with only 26% of the population owning a vehicle. The sidewalks run along Truman Avenue, North Roosevelt Avenue, Lincoln Avenue, Taft Avenue, and Adams Lane. Less than 10% of the overall target area was served by sidewalks, and there was no shoulder along any of these roads. The addition of sidewalks provided significantly enhanced safety for residents and children in the community. Included in this project are the following new features:

  • Curbing
  • Ramps
  • Crosswalks
  • Signage
  • Lighting

Prior strategic planning efforts by the Village highlighted sidewalk installation as a priority. Road infrastructure and poor lighting made walking unsafe for the nearly 700 school-aged children and 900 adults who walk to work. Women had to traverse the village by foot with toddlers, strollers and baby carriages.

Laberge Group assisted the Village in securing $600,000 of NYS CDBG grants to implement these projects.
