Funding Update – $5.98 Million NYS WIIA Grant for Wastewater Infrastructure Improvements – Village of Hempstead, NY

Congratulations to the Village of Hempstead for securing $5.98 million in NYS WIIA funding to support critical wastewater infrastructure improvements in their community. Funding of these Phase I sewer improvements will enable the replacement of compromised and deteriorating sewer mains that, due to their 100+ years of age, are leaching into the aquifer below, with potentially adverse impacts to the health and safety of residents. In addition to protecting public safety, the design and construction of a new gravity sewer main and pump station will support economic growth in Hempstead’s Downtown Overlay Zone (DOZ). This infrastructure is a critical step toward the realization of planned investments in workforce and market rate housing, as well as retail and commercial development initiatives that will generate jobs while expanding the tax base.
