On July 2, 2021 the electorate of the Village of Highland Falls submitted a Petition for Dissolution in accordance with the Article 17-A of General Municipal Law. The petition, which contained 346 valid signatures, was certified on July 9, 2021.

The Village Board of Trustees passed a resolution on August 9, 2021 calling for a referendum on the proposed dissolution by the electors. The electorate will vote on whether to dissolve the Village in a REFERENDUM ON VILLAGE DISSOLUTION on Monday, November 8th, 2021.
