The Town of Ramapo, in partnership with the Laberge Group Team, identified key steps necessary to prepare a successful Development Plan for Northeast Ramapo. Major components of the Project are defined on this page.
- Planning Committee Meetings: The Town Supervisor appointed a Planning Advisory Committee (PAC) in fall 2018. The PAC is comprised of people with diverse interests and backgrounds. Drawing on broad perspectives and subject knowledge, they will help guide strategic planning. The PAC can advise on and help refine strategy through their understanding about the community’s attributes and the potential relationships between key factors. The PAC will aid review of documents and help establish connections with community groups and leaders. PAC Meeting summaries will be available on Planning Documents.
- Town Department Heads, Community Leaders & Stakeholder Meetings: Laberge Group Team has met with several Town department heads to discuss current issues and long-term needs. The Team will also meet with local and regional leaders (stakeholders) to gain understanding of the Town’s position in the region, identify and delve into development issues and opportunities, and gather information that can put life to data being compiled and topics and alternative options and approaches being analyzed within each area-wide development plan as it is developed.
- Comprehensive Plan Update of Town-wide Existing Conditions: Based on review of existing documents, meetings with community leaders and the interested public, and research and data collection, including geographic analysis, Laberge Group Team will produce an updated Town-wide Existing Conditions report, using narratives, maps, tables and charts for an amended Comprehensive Plan. The Town-Wide Existing Conditions Report will be used as the foundation for each area-wide plan. The Existing Conditions Update will be posted on the Planning Documents.
- Public Outreach: Community participation is a central component of the planning process (and environmental review) effort. Diverse public engagement serves to inform the community about the project and it provides a means for interested persons to supply input regarding needs and strategy. - SEQRA: Per New York State Environmental Quality Review Act (SEQR) protocols, the Town Board is required to take a hard look at the potential impacts of each area plan. Opportunities for the public to provide feedback will be available during a Public Scoping Session and at future Public Hearing(s). - Draft Plans: A Draft Development Plan will be prepared that will tie together all elements completed throughout the planning process and it will include: goals, strategies, and an implementation plan. The Town Board will hold a Public Hearing on the Draft Plan (found in Planning Documents. Meeting information will be posted on Get Involved.
- Final Plan: A final revised Development Plan will be prepared based on public comments received during the Public Hearing and written comments for the Town Board’s consideration. All documents will be posted on Planning Documents.
